TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi Project 70% Complete

Miral, the Department of Culture and Tourism- Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dabi) and teamLab have announced that 70% of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi’s development is now complete.

The mega-project covers a gross floor area (GFA) of 17,000 square meter and it is making steady progress in terms of development.

The reinforced concrete structure is now fully complete and the construction of the artwork spaces has now begun.

The project

Located at Saadiyat Cultural District, the multi-sensory art experience will comprise of immersive and large-scale artwork spaces.

These will be created by teamLab, the Tokyo-based art collective, which has managed to earn global recognition.

It will provide inspirational spaces where technology and art meet and these will ignite imagination, curiosity and creativity amongst all the visitors.

TeamLab Architects came up with the concept and design of the architecture of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.

This architecture will play a key role in providing an environment to the artworks that allows them to evolve organically and freely.

As part of the new concept of teamLab, Environmental Phenomena, the architecture has been developed from the outside in as well as the inside out.

This has resulted in a structure that combines different environments in order to produce a unique phenomena.

The statement

Miral’s Chief Portfolio Officer, Jonathan Brown, said that Miral would work with its partners for developing the project in order to deliver a captivating cultural journey.

This would see the emirate get a new realm of creative discovery and educational exploration.

Miral would also be able to expand its portfolio of world-class attractions and spaces through the experiential and curated space, which would appeal to visitors from all over the world.

Founder of teamLab, Toshiyuki Inoko, said that the environment was of the vital characteristic of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and the numerous phenomena it creates.

The structure of these phenomena is stabilized by the environment and this makes them artworks themselves.

He said that instead of man-made creations and stones that can remain stable on their own, the artworks that you will see at teamLab Phenomena will depend on the environment.

He added that even if people take the artworks apart, they would remain in existence due to the environment.

Artistic installations that are constantly transforming and are unique to Abu Dhabi will be part of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, which would the home of endless curiosity.

The concept of Environmental Phenomena that teamLab came up with has been used for designing these artistic installations and have been created via an extensive process of experimentation.

As mentioned above, teamLab Architects conceptualized the architecture of the project in question and it will play a key role in providing the right environment to the artworks for evolving organically and freely.
